Scotty Patrick suffered a tear in a layer of a major artery in his neck "allowing blood to leak and clot" after the ride on the coaster with "twists and turns erratically pulling powerful Gs," his mom Nancy Patrick wrote in GoFundMe. "He knew he was sick after he rode the coaster but did not know that he’d torn the major artery at the back of his neck that supplies blood to his brain."
Since then the dad of two had bad headaches, and suffered two minor strokes followed by a major stroke on Sept. 12, Nancy explained.
From that day, until Sept. 25, he remained in the hospital.
As he recovers, he worries about his job, caring for his children, and paying his medical expenses, Nancy noted.
"The cost of his hospital care is astronomical and his aftercare will also be costly with physical therapy, occupational therapy and possible concussion therapy. He needs to adjust his work life and will (lose) wages needed to support himself and his children," Nancy said.
Amazingly, in an update on the 25th, Nancy explained that he was already walking and beginning to work on logic puzzles.
Although the road to recovery is still long the family is becoming more optimistic about the future.
"Thank you everyone for your continued care, prayers, giving and sharing," concluded.
